1.7.1.0 Paste issue

I just upgraded from 1.6.1 to 1.7.1, and now I’m getting a paste issue where anything pasted from Softmaker Office is black letters on black background. Doing the same in 1.6.1.0 behaves normally.

Your clipboard tool gives this as the output of my paste command:

Some background - I do a lot of my original writing on android, using softmaker office for android. I save the files in docx format, and copy to laptop/desktop. Only 1 machine has a office licence that understands docx, the other doesn’t. So I use Softmaker office to read the docx and paste into scrivener. Doing the same from Office 2010 pastes fine. Obviously softmaker is putting different codes into the clipboard, and 1.7.1 is treating those codes differently from 1.6.1.

Hopefully this is enough info for your programmer(s)

David

Does it work to import the file (File > Import)? I don’t do this much, but I just tried it, and a .docx file imported fine. Of course, you might not want everything in the file, but at least you’d then have the material within Scrivener and could copy the desired selections and paste them where you need them. It could at least work as a temporary fix.

Thank you for your feedback.

Sadly, import of docx doesn’t work.

  1. On the machine with no windows 2010 license, scrivener imports gibberish. Probably the raw docx file, which it cannot understand.
  2. On the machine with the 2010 license, it tries to install office 2007, fails, and the import file is empty. I know, I bought a laptop with a trial office 2007. The only licence I could buy was 2010, and it duly upgraded my install to 2010. But trying to open office using a document extension results in 2007 install issue.

I tried using Softmaker office for windows to save the docx as rtf, and then importing it, but on the machine without office 2010, if imports with black text on a black background (problem 1). On the machine with office 2010, it exhibits problem 2.

I can open the rtf in office 2000 or 2010 and paste cleanly, but this isn’t the point of this bug report.

thanks
David

Well, this is far beyond anything I could even suggest another kludge for. Hope the programmers or support team will be able to work this out.

The kludge/work around is to past into word (which ever version is running) first, then select the text in word, and copy this. This copy can be pasted cleanly into Scrivener.

regards
David

After pasting the text from Softmaker Office, can you select all and clear the highlight to have it appear correctly? (Right-click and choose Highlight Color > Remove Color.)

Yes, highlighting the text and selecting Remove Highlighting also works. Luckily I don’t use highlighting in my text.

Since it posts leanly into word, it suggests Word is processing the Clipboard contents differently from Scrivener. Hopefully this will make it into your bug list?

thanks
David

Yes, it’s on the bug list.
