Can I drag images directly from the web into Scrivener or do they need to be saved to my computer? This is just for research purposes and I’d love to be able to add them on the fly. I am using Scrivener for Windows, 1.8.

Just tried the drag and drop method and it works very well… but only if i drag pics in the research tab (not directly in a text). Seems normal because the research tab is able to host web pages (& other ‘media’ files 'including pdf etc). I suppose you have, indeed, to save to your PC if you want to put images in a text body. Anyway, most experienced users should give a better answer to you 
The only difference with your case is im using Windows XP.
