adding keyboad shortcuts

How do you add custom shortcuts?

  1. E.g., I have shortcuts in Word such as ‘rcd’ which expands to ‘Rockdome’ and character names that I don’t have to hit [shift] before typing character name, as well as words like “don’t” that I do not have to type the apostrophe.

  2. E.g., I’m so used to hitting F7 for spellcheck I’d like to continue to do so.

Any help would be much appreciated.

  1. You set those in Apple > System Preferences > Language & Text > Text (exact path might be slightly different in your version of OS X). You can set up anything you want. I, for example, have “ttfdohd” set to produce “The Twenty-Five Deeds of Hanson Drake”.

  2. You can set that in Apple > System Preferences > Keyboard > Keyboard Shortcuts (exact path might be slightly different in your version of OS X) and then create the shortcut(s) you want.

Thanks, I’ll try that.

Unfortunately the hook up between the two isnt working any more and I need it badly as I type with my nose
