An Odd Split View Bug

I was in a split view so I could look at two portions of my work, the left window was at the start area and the right window the end area. I was typing in the left window and when I got to the end of the line it didn’t continue to the next, it appeared in the other window, at the end of the document and it was like I had selected to type in that window. I noticed that I had another application demanding attention and after resolving that the glitch went away.

This was with version 3.5 of Scrivener and macOS 15.6.1

Hi, THeMysticWriter, fellow Scrivener user here. Welcome to the forum.

It sounds like the other application came forward and took primary focus. After you took care of that or perhaps just did something to bring Scrivener again to the front, the focus was now on the second editor pane.

Do you know of a way to reliably reproduce this puzzling behavior?

Switching away from Scrivener and switching back should not change the focus from one Editor split to another, of course, but since there is both user interaction (in responding to the other app, and perhaps in switching back to Scriv) and the intrusion of another app (of unknown sort), there may yet be some non-Scrivener explanation for what happened.

P.S. You might check the Navigate > Move Focus To… submenu to review the key commands that switch focus between the splits. You could consider whether you might have hit the relevant key command by accident or in dealing with the other app. Just something to consider.
