Another Sync Issue

Hi. This morning I was working on a project on my Mac. I put it to sleep and went to work. At lunchtime, I opened my iPad to pick up where I left off. However, after the main screen opened, none of the projects indicated that they were out of sync. In fact, the project I worked on this morning had a date of the day before.

I manually synced the project, and all is well, but I wonder what may have caused this. Is there something I should look for, or a way to troubleshoot?

Ensure that the Mac has finished syncing before you leave it. I also recommend closing Scrivener when you’ll be away for an extended period.

Always ensure that the iOS device has synchronized before and after use.

Thanks for the reply. The Scrivener on the Mac was closed for at least 10 minutes before I put it to sleep, and there was no indication on Dropbox’s icon that it was still syncing. If it happened again, I’ll let you know.

Synchronizing the Mac and synchronizing the iOS device are two separate operations. If you don’t explicitly sync the iOS device, it won’t have the most current version of the project.

This has happened to me as well, the symptoms being that I know there are changes pending but DropBox and iOS Scriv don’t seem to talk, with the result that iOS Scriv doesn’t auto sync upon launch. But it is quite rare, let’s say twice a year, which means 2 out of perhaps 1,000 sync operations.

I imagine there could be any number of reasons for this, anything from poor wifi to some clogup within the iOS OS itself or some temporary problem with DropBox or Scrivener or who knows. It could be that I didn’t wait long enough and auto sync would have eventually happened, had I waited just another second or two. :laughing: It happens too rarely and there are too many variables involved to even guess at root causes, for me at least.

The bottom line is, it’s not an issue for me. Whenever I launch iOS Scriv, if auto sync doesn’t happen. I am in the habit of always pressing the sync button whether I know sync is needed or not. If you adopt that habit, then this will become a non-issue for you too. :slight_smile:

It seems to take a small but finite amount of time for Dropbox to process uploaded changes and push them out to other connected devices. I’ve seen it with other applications as well, not just Scrivener.

When in doubt, synchronize.
