Anyone Writing Novels Exclusively in Scrivener?

Erm…? You mean in your opinion, I presume?

Misery
Shawshank Redemption
The Running Man
The Shining
Stand By Me
The Green Mile
Carrie

Unless of course you really do mean “Stephan King”.

I thought Final Draft Go, their newer iOS app, was the only one product in their suite that had a subscription model… and that doesn’t - I believe - have the outlining tools, beat board, etc you’re talking about.

Plus…

Horses for courses and all that, but that just stirkes me as very odd indeed.

For someone as successful as you, I’d expect you to have more than 7 followers on Instagram and 2 on YouTube.

I am not active on Instagram or YouTube. I know it’s public, but it’s a bit odd to throw that in my face. It feels like you’re trying to insult me.

However, I don’t use social media, so your point is mute. I prefer to market myself locally. I just go to events instead. I have several IMDB credits. I have worked with companies like Big Comedy Network and Amazon Prime. I get those connections by calling people and meeting their staff in person, not through social media. Social media has never been how I typically like to do things.

I occasionally post, but I don’t feel my business and life need to be portrayed online. In real life, I’m more bubbly and outgoing than I appear online—real life does not equal online life.

Recently, I don’t even take on clients anymore since I got royally f*ed over by the last one and I have serious health issues. It’s been almost a year since then. I’m focusing on my project right now, which is my book series.

No, I just mean generally this is the opinion that the media and stephan King himself holds. Not necessarily me specifically. I’ve read almost all his books, but I haven’t seen all of the movies.

It’s not that odd. Final Draft has novel templates and they are automatically set to industry-standard format. Plus they have a link in the program for the site that protects your IP, so that’s a plus as well. It’s expensive, so of course I’m going to use every aspect of it. Also, Final Draft Go is not the same as Final Draft 12. Anyways, It’s a text editor, just like Word. Would you then say writing a book on Word is odd? I hope not. It’s just a blank page with template formatting options.

Yes, I can see why you might say that. I wasn’t trying to insult as much as simply say, I smell something highly fishy in your claims across your various posts.

For example:

Is an odd claim for someone whose website proudly lists “social media marketing” as one its areas of expertise.

I couldn’t find you or 2 of the 3 things listed in your filmography on IMDb (in an admittedly quick search). The one I could find on IMDb didn’t list you at all.

Perhaps consider directly linking to those on your website to make them easier to find - considering you’re a marketing expert - in the same way you do your aforementioned social media profiles.

That’s because you don’t know my name.

I don’t know why you feel the need to pick apart my business. I don’t need to use social media to show that I am capable of creating successful marketing campaigns. My work for other people speaks for itself. My recommendations, speak for itself. You say you don’t mean to insult me, yet you just called my business fishy. That’s like saying no offense and then offending someone. Frankly, it’s none of your business. I was only stating my experience using Final Draft versus Scrivener. If you’re not looking to be a client then what exactly are you doing? Leave me alone if you find me so fishy.

Sorry, Dan. My mistake.

EDITED to add the quote I was responding to because the post I was responding to was subsequently edited.

Scrivener is my main authoring tool. I do everything within the app, from plotting and outlining, to the writing process and progress tracking, to creating my own compile format and eBook production.
I only use an external app (Language Tool) for proofreading.

I’m not doing any such thing. I’m merely commenting on things you are posting here that I find to be highly dubious and inconsistent (both with themselves and with your website) and responding to your claims of grandeur with a bit of fact-check skepticism.

For example, you are someone who has helped people develop their novels and get them six figure deals, but need advice on how to write a novel in a year (or however long it was). You’re someone who knows writers who deserve 6-figure sums but needs writing advice from strangers on the internet, for that matter.

You’re someone who uses final draft a lot, but doesn’t know they don’t have a subscription model. Or were you talking about Scrivener there (which also doesn’t have a subscription model)?

If your business is doing great, that’s amazing. If you’re 1% as successful as you’ve said, you’d still be 10x more successful than me and if so then I’m genuinely happy for you.

But I’m also highly skeptical of your claims which I can find no supporting evidence for, and a few hints of contraindication.

For the avoidance of doubt, I am not.

Have you been on the internet before?

Forum members are under no obligation to disclose personal information. We don’t need to see your CV in order to post here.

However, if a person is claiming to be an expert in a particular field, it is not out of line for other forum members to ask for evidence in support of that claim.

With that said, the whole sub-conversation is off topic for this particular thread. Please take it elsewhere.

Wow toxic post, particularly from pigfender. Can you not put certain forum posters in a temp ban? We all know who they are.

You are welcome to mute or ignore anyone you like.

As I said, questioning another forum member’s claim of expertise is not out of line.
