Apple Intelligence + Scrivener + new Writing App (coming)

To make you feel better Keith  , this is a couple of days ago.

In my defense only a couple of days after the ‘Pickleball’ angina episode that took 3 GTNs to get under control and 6 weeks after a major heart attack with lights and siren all the way and a few ‘stay with us’. (Getting sick of hearing that)

As my Scottish cardiologist says, sometimes it helps to be a stubborn Yorkshireman (/Kiwi/Aussie.)

I think you’ve just found the sole benefit of Brexit.

Moderator note: I’ll leave the Brexit joke intact, because that’s all it is. Let’s try to keep away from an excess of political commentary otherwise though, as the topic of the thread itself is contentious enough. Don’t feel bad if your post got hidden.

Im assuming from all of this discussion about “writing tools” - that this is something coming down the track. I have 15.0 installed and dont see any difference.

It is expected to launch with macOS 15.1 in a couple of weeks.

Provided you have US English and US region selected. Other English countries December. EU possibly never due to ridiculous laws.

… necessary laws … :grimacing:

Normally I’d be very content with off-topicing, but blatantly and flagrantly ignoring the clear edict of our glorious leader, @AmberV, is, I’m pretty sure, against the law.

Certainly in the EU. In the UK who knows.

Very much on topic. Merely stated the likely timeline for the next steps as outlined by Apple.

Unfortunately it appears that some regions might have laws that could potentially stifle innovation, hence Apple give no timeline for those countries…

You didn’t “merely” do anything and you know it!

Oh yes I did… :innocent:

And a few xtra chrs

You don’t look like Tim Cook in those photos, but maybe they’re AI generated! :grinning:

macOS 15.1 is out for those who have set region and language to US, PLUS using a VPN to a US server.

I don’t know if the last point is a permanent requirement at this point, or if it’s just a load balancing act by Apple, however can confirm installed and Apple Intelligence activated.

Per my previous post, Scrivener now has two Writing Tools menu items under Edit.

When does the Scrivener update drop, Keith?

Looks like I have to wait, despite being in the US and having 15.1 installed today. I joined the Apple Intelligence Waitlist.

Mine was immediate with no waitlist.

I did have a few hours waitlist when I installed the beta on a second volume some months back. Perhaps it put some sort of flag on the main volume that avoids the wait.

Regardless, the wait should only be hours or a day or two depending on load on their servers.

My wait was just a few hours. I now have it. Wheee… (Writing Tools are the only part of Apple Intelligence I was interested in using, althoughI may try out what Siri now offers.)

I changed region and language, upgraded to 15.1, and use a VPN to a US server but nada; I wonder if they check at startup before a VPN activates then disables the AI features?

If you are on 15.1 and region and language set to US and in a VPN with US server you should have been ok.

When I checked from the Aus IP with US region and lang, I didn’t even get the option for 15.1

Yup weird. It let me upgrade to 15.1, it just won’t offer me any 15.1 features; thus I suspect macOS checks IP location (I live in China) at boot before any VPN kicks in. My system prefs don’t show intelligence, only regular Siri settings. I found some defaults triggers at https://derflounder.wordpress.com/2024/10/28/managing-apple-intelligence-features-on-macos-sequoia-15-1/ but they don’t seem to help…

If that were the case it would have prevented me, unless there is some overriding issue with anything coming out of China
