During the tutorial about the Inspector and the synopsis index card, in document 5a, I was instructed that I could highlight text in the editor and if I pressed Auto Populate Synopsis, that highlighted texted would appear in the index card. Every time I’ve tried, the first line of the document appears on the index card regardless of what text I’ve highlighted. It does this regardless of the document I have open; I’ve tried it several different places.
I’m experiencing the same issue:
- highlight some text in the editor
- click “auto synopsis” button in inspector window
- index card is populated with the first line of text in the editor window no matter which text is highlighted.
My guess is that you’re running the first beta version. That was one of the bugs fixed in version Beta 1.2. Look at the top of the Bug Hunt forum for announcements of and links to the latest version.
I have a similar issue and I’m running Beta 1.2, except it seems to only quote the first 20 words. I tested a few segments of text and here are the results.
Test 1:
Highlighted Text: You might, for instance, rename “Label” to “POV” (for Point of View) and use it to hold the name of the point-of-view
Text Copied to Synopsis: You might, for instance, rename “Label” to “POV” (for Point of View) and use it to hold the name of
Total copied words: 20
Test 2:

Text Copied to Synopsis: One two three four five six seven eight nine ten eleven twelve thirteen fourteen fifteen sixteen seventeen eighteen nineteen twenty
Total copied words: 20
Test 3:

Text Copied to Synopsis: Oneoneoneoneoneone twotwotwotwotwotwotwotwo threethreethreethreethree four five six seven eight nine ten eleven twelve thirteen fourteen fifteen sixteen seventeen eighteen nineteen twenty
Total Copied Words: 20
Test 4:
Hightlighted Text: A b c d e f g h I j k l m n o p q r s t u v w x y z
Text copied to Synopsis: A b c d e f g h I j k l m n o p q r s t
Total Copied Words: 20
Regardless of the length of words it only copies the first twenty words. It doesn’t seem limited at all by line length or word length, but the twenty words looks like a hard limit. I couldn’t get it to copy more than twenty words no matter what I did.
Just installed 1.2 and it does the same thing - I hit auto-populate and it puts the first line in (“Chapter One”) - great synopsis haha. The 1.0 version was not doing this for me, it was working.
This doesn’t address the highlighting, but you can also copy\paste, or double clicking on the card lets you type in whatever you want, I’ve found.
