Autoformat/convert smiley?

I tried searching but couldn’t find anything about it, just a small thing:

Could I somehow have Scrivener convert  or  into a real smiley on the fly?
(Or should I make a macro or something? I like to insert visual cues like smiley to myself in teaching manuscripts.)

(Nisus has this, and in Word I think it was some autoformat function or something.)

Under Preferences > Auto-Correction, make sure “Symbol and text substitution” is ticked, and then click on “System Text Preferences…” to open the system preferences auto-substitution panel. You can add any substitutions you want there, including smileys.

Hope that helps.

All the best,

Yes, that’s great, thanks!
