I LOVE Scrivener 2.0 Keith!! You’ve done an incredible job and I feel completely satisfied with it as it is . . . even if you never made another change. But since you ask for wishes . . . and I’m sure this is probably just overkill on my part . . . if I had my way I would like the option (in backup preferences) to back up automatically to two locations so that I could have a zip file backed up to the hard drive and also say to dropbox. Right now I automatically backup to the desktop and then drop the file in dropbox and another folder on the hard drive. It’s not exactly an onerous task for me but that is my wish, though I’m sure there are far more deserving ideas in this forum. Well done, Keith. I hope you and your team can take something of a well-deserved breather soon.
You could do this.
Thanks. It looks a bit complicated to me though and I don’t like messing with then Terminal. But someone in the post before suggested using the Automator to automatically copy to another folder. I’ve no idea how to do that so I guess I need to read up on the Automator.
I considered that too. You need to look into Folder Actions. The way to do it is to attach a script to your primary backup folder as a folder action which copies any incoming file to your secondary backup folder. So the first thing you need to do is create a script that copies any incoming file to a second location. The command you need in Automator is called Copy Finder Items.
Thanks. The mention of scripts sends a shiver down my spine. I haven’t yet moved in those circles so unless I can find something on the net on how to use Folder Actions in layman’s terms I may just go on doing what I already do!!
Anything against my other suggestion that doesn’t require technical skill? Why not just point Scrivener’s backup preferences directly into your dropbox folder. Now it is in at least two places: your computer and encrypted on the server farms that Dropbox uses—and if you have more than one computer tied up—then you get copies on each of those, too.
Sure that’s a real possibility I guess.
