Banner Notifications with Yosemite

When I used to save documents in full screen using Mavericks, notifications worked fine.
It seems to have stopped with Yosemite. Is this a known issue?

I have checked my notification settings in Yosemite via System Preferences.

My settings are below, if anyone is curious.

These should be working in OS X’s Full Screen mode, so if that is what you meant, then no that’s not a known issue. There is however a known problem with Composition Mode—basically the features we use to provide that view are interpreted by the OS to mean you do not want notifications to appear either—which makes sense when you consider the feature is primarily used for presenting video Keynote presentations, kiosk modes and similar. It did not used to be that way, and I’m not sure exactly sure when it changed, but we have looked into it and there isn’t much we can do—that’s just how Notifications are designed to work.

Installing Growl and using that instead is probably your best bet. Scrivener will make use of it in preference to Notifications if you have it installed.

Okay Amber, thanks for getting back to me.

Kind Regards

I have the same issue regarding target notifications not showing in Composition Mode. I have installed Growl, but I’m not sure what settings I need to configure for it to work per your suggestion. Help? Thanks.

It looks to me as though they have not yet released a 10.10 update. I’d check again once they put out that update. It’s been too many years since I’ve used Growl to walk you through settings, but I recall that for the most part it didn’t require any configuration to functional normally, so it must be the 10.10 problem.

Hi Amber,

Just as a follow-up, I cannot get it to work with Growl. I know it’s out of your hands. I’ll wait for an update from Growl.

Okay, good to know, I’ll be sure to add that disclaimer if anyone else asks, thanks.

Thank you, Amber. I will wait for an update–hopefully sooner rather than later!
