Beta 11 won't start

This was a fresh download and has occurred on two separate computers now.

$ ./Scrivener
./Scrivener: symbol lookup error: ./Scrivener: undefined symbol: _ZN19QTextDocumentLayout16staticMetaObjectE

Yeah… same here.

Have to say… I’m done. This is BS. Sorry. I’m not feeling very generous. Whoever is running this outfit can take Scrivener and shove it. I don’t mind dealing with BETA, but being force fed one BETA after another without the ability to access ones work when things go wrong… I don’t care if it’s free or not, I read their attitude as my-way-or-the-highway. So… got highway, will travel…

This has already been completed before I posted, but unfortunately, does not help:

The point of beta testing is not for you to get a free app to do production or mission critical work in. Beta is for identifying weaknesses and errors in design and implementation. This can result in loss of data, inability to run the app in question, and other unforeseen behaviors. This is expected. If you are unable to access work at any point this is a failure to plan on YOUR part. Not the developers.

As a beta tester an individual contributes to making the application better for the consumer in the end. Have you made it better?

Atomicblue: from the library listing you posted, it looks like you missed linking a couple of files –
libQtMultimedia.so.4
libQtWebKit.so

If you link those two, then hopefully it will work for you.

Inrideo: well put

I’ve got better things to do than waste my time Beta testing for someone else’s profit, and so do others. If I Beta test a piece of software, I expect something in return and that has nothing to do with production or mission critical work.

I’m not getting that. All I’m getting is a sense of entitlement, like Scrivener is entitled to have someone Beta test software without the slightest sense of recompense.

All the developers have to do is offer an overlapping grace period between BETAS. Not so hard. Yes, the ball most definitely is in the developer’s court. As soon as the next functioning version appears, I’m dropping Scrivener.

Yeah… that’s a two way street, Inrideo.

The files are stored in the project folder in text format.

Somewhere out there a bridge and a village are looking for a troll and an idiot.
At least you have career options.

You’re getting free use of (hopefully) useful software, plus the opportunity to encourage the developer to add features that you personally like. If that’s not enough, don’t beta test.

I’m a long time Scrivener (Mac) user, but declined an invitation to join the 2.0 private beta for these very reasons. I wasn’t willing to risk lost time or data. shrug It’s a personal choice. But once you do agree to test a beta – on an unsupported platform, no less! – all the rest goes with the territory.
