Typewriter scrolling doesn’t work anymore.
I always had/have it enabled and it worked just fine. Didn’t change anything - but now it doesn’t work anymore
It seems to be working for me. As to whether it’s working correctly, that’s another matter. I don’t normally use this mode (the jumping text on new-line is distracting and causes me eyestrain), so I’m not sure exactly what it’s supposed to do.
As long as I’m typing new text in a document, the cursor stays approximately the vertical middle of the page (once enough lines have been entered). If I paste something in, the cursor stays at the end of that text until I use the return/enter key.
However, if text is already present on the page, and I’m scrolling through that, the text does not move unless I use the return/enter key. If I create a new line the text moves so as to put the new line at about the vertical middle of the page (if enough lines are above it to do that; if there aren’t, it’s as close as it can be to the middle, given that the top of the document is at the top of the page).
Is that how it’s supposed to work?
Yes, the cursor shoudl alwaysremein in the middle, rollign the text upwards.
it still does it, when i create a new project test-wise.
but with none of my existing projects . thoug I created them all as new projects in the Beta, all with typewriter scrolling enabled.
The cursor is always down at the last line. Completely annoying - I love this feature. I want to get it back
@Dorothea: Please check that the option View > Text Editing > Typewriter Scrolling is enabled in the projects having this problem. It could be that the shortcut has turned it off by chance.
The case is checked.
But it reads “Typwriter scrolling in new projects”.
I unchecked and checked again -it doesn’t work.
Of course, the existing projects aren’t “new” and this seems to be the issue. Text-wise I created anew projectand there it works as itshould be…
So perhaps canging the Beta version has created the problem?
Now what? Can you just cancel the condition “new projects”?
Hi Dorothea,
You are referring to the option for enabling Typewriter scrolling in new projects, which is in Sciv Preferences.
Tiho is referring to how you toggle it on/off for the current project, which is under the View menu. View > Text Editing > Typewriter Scrolling. Or you can use the keyboard shortcut. Place your cursor inside a document and press Ctrl+G, Ctrl+T.
Best,
Jim
THERE it is.
Thank you.
It’s confusing to have it in 2 places.
I did not even know that there are 2 places to check on it
