Blank files

Hello, I’m new to the software and my boss sent me some files (he uses mac and I use windows) but scrivener won’t open it… actually, all it gives me are the list with the names of the characters but no text to go with it… can anybody help me? tks…

Sounds like you might have been sent only the .scrivx project file without the full project folder (.scriv) it sits in.

The .scrivx file has to sit inside the .scriv folder (if you change the layout, etc of the scrivener folders it can cause all sorts of problems).

This sounds like the .scrivx file might be corrupted. How was the project transferred? If it was a zip file, did you use the built-in Windows tool to unzip it or a third-party program? Are you using any kind of file-sharing software or a network share for this?

By this do you mean that the project window opens and you see a list of documents in the left sidebar (with titles unique to the project, e.g. names of characters in the project), but clicking them does not load any text in the center editor? Do you get a 0 word count at the bottom for these pages or is there a number there that suggests Scrivener thinks the document has text even though none is displayed? There have been a few cases lately where documents have loaded with the appearance of being blank due to a memory problem (this is more likely if you’re running a number of other programs at the same time or working with an especially memory-intensive program); a restart should be all you need in that case.
