Break up manuscript for formatting?

Hello all,

I am at the point where I want to format my novel for self-publication. I write and edited everything in Word and once I am done, I would like then compile it into a format for paperback and e-book. I was messing around with Scrivener the other day and noticed that things like scene breaks (I like to use “* * *” to separate my scenes) are not centred when compiled even though they are in the main manuscript.

i am wondering, is it best to break apart the Word file into chapters and scenes and load into Scrivener to get the correct formatting, or can I accomplish what I want through one giant MS Word file?

Any thoughts?

If you already have a complete manuscript in Word, why are you using Scrivener at all? While it does have some significant publishing capabilities, its focus is on actually creating the manuscript.

With that said, a fundamental assumption of Scrivener is that the manuscript will be broken into “chunks” based on its structure, and the Compile tool in particular is built around that assumption.
