I generally don’t use this function, but I was wondering…
So I used the cursor to select one word in the beginning sentence of the document. Then I use Edit | Select | Sentence.
The sentence is selected, EXCEPT for the first word.
If I select a word from the first sentence in a paragraph after the first, where the previous paragraph ended with ending smartquotes, the sentence will be selected, AND the smartquotes from the previous paragraph.
If I select a word from the first sentence in a paragraph after the first, where the prior para did NOT end with smart quotes, the carriage return separating the paras is also selected. If I then cut this sentence, the two paragraphs are joined (the carriage return/linefeed is eliminated).
“Select sentence” should not cross paragraph boundaries, and it should include all the words in the sentence.
