Hello everyone and my apologies if this has been answered elsewhere, but I didn’t find it in the FAQ.
Imported PDF display is buggy to me when I change display options (zooming, automatic resizing). Random parts of the PDF show blank strips, to the point where some options are unusable.
Please see the attached screenshots (lowest strip of white is not a screenshot or image bug, that’s how they show). It can get much worse depending on the display options (3/4 of the PDF will be hidden by that white zone).
It’s a bug, deep in the Apple code that Keith uses to avoid coding his own PDF reader program (which would be a whole lot of work).
The good news is that once he converts Scrivener to 64 bit code (for the 3.0 paid release), the issue will go away. For now, you have to change the PDF display settings so that they don’t show a continuous scroll of pages. See scrivener.tenderapp.com/help/kb/ … rectangles for the official word on the subject.
I use PDFs a lot, and for this fix alone, I eagerly await the 3.0 release. My eyes aren’t what they used to be, and my laptop screen is just too small to view a whole page in a Scrivener editor pane.
Yeah, but if I need to rapidly flip pages, zooming causes frustrating changes to how I navigate a PDF. I need to spend some time training my fingers to reach for other keyboard shortcuts and track pad navigation gestures than the ones I usually go for, but I don’t wanna . It’s just hard , and continuous scrolling works so well for me that I’m willing to squint for a few more months (I hope) instead of going to that effort.
Thank you for the information. That’s really too bad… That prevents me from using Scrivener as a be-all, end-all tool for maintaining my series bible. I will have to look elsewhere for that…
Cheers,
