Setting a style on a column, changes the formatting of the rows as if it was a paragraph. For instance, selecting the H3 column in a table similar to:
H1 H2. H3… H4… H5
1 test1 testing testing testing
2 test2 testing testing testing
3 test3 testing testing testing
4 test4 testing testing testing
and then setting it to the Heading 2 style, will give:
H1 H2… H3… H4… H5
1 test1 testing testing testing
2 test2 testing testing testing
3 test3 testing testing testing
4 test4 testing testing testing -
Selecting a column with text and with empty cells on the same rows and then setting any of bold, italic, underline, text colour, highlight, font or font size, will change the formatting of the empty cells as if it was a paragraph. For instance, selecting the H3 column in a table similar to:
H1 H2 H3… H4 H5
1 . . . . . testing
2 . . . . . testing
3 . . . . . testing
4 . . . . . testing
and then setting it to red, will leave the formatting in collumn H1, cell H2-1, H4-4 and H5-4 as it is, but change the other empty cells to red as well. If you fill the empty cells now, you will get:
H1 H2… H3… H4… H5
1 test1 testing testing testing
2 test2 testing testing testing
3 test3 testing testing testing
4 test4 testing testing testing -
Adding or removing a collumn after changing collumn widths, will reset the widths of all the collumns to equal sizes.

Copying and pasting a table sets the collumn widths to seemingly random values
