Can suddenly no longer open my file after buying license.

Hi,

I have a file with a large amount of work spanning several years. I started writing it in Scrivener 2 for Mac, and converted it over to Scrivener 3 for Windows during the beta period. After the official Scrivener 3 was released, I began using the 30 day trial version of the software with the file with zero issues. I just got money together to pay for the license a couple hours ago. And suddenly, the file will not open. Scrivener says there are “recovered files”, then pulls up a loading bar that says “Rebuilding search indexes. Please wait.” This stops moving at 84%, and the program simply stops responding. This does not occur in a newer file I began writing last month, which I can open without issues.

I have no idea what’s happening and would very much appreciate some help. After noodling around in the file data—could not find where Scrivener has been stashing my backups—I found the content.rtfs where all my chapters are nestled, so I’m not panicking and can rebuild if necessary. But I confess it really would be much more convenient if I knew what suddenly went wrong and why so I can avoid it in the future.

  • I have restarted my computer
  • I have uninstalled and reinstalled Scrivener 3 using a fresh and updated copy from the website

Thank you so much!
