Cannot Assign New Color to Insertion Point in Editor

I have a dark background in Editor. Presently I cannot see my cursor. So I am trying to set my Insertion Point to white in Preferences > Appearance > Customizable Colors > Editor > Insertion Point.

When I double-click on the color box and select white, nothing happens. The color doesn’t stick. Nothing changes.

In fact, assigning colors overall seems inconstant. I cannot understand why it works or does not on any given attempt. I think I’ve learned to hit “Use Default Color” as a kind of a reset, but in this case, even that is not working.

You only have to click once in the colour pot. That will bring up the colour panel, and you should note that the button will appear depressed. If you click it again then you’ll disable the connection between the colour palette and this button.
