Cannot use mouse to navigate

I have a Wacom graphics tablet with pen and mouse and am using (or trying to use) the beta version of Scrivener for Windows.

When I open Scrivener, I can use my mouse to left click into the main writing area, can click and drag to highlight words and type new text as well as clicking to select a new place to type edits or additions to the text.

However, Scrivener is not recognising left mouse clicks when I try to click on the menu options at the top (File, Edit, etc), nor when I try to click on the collapsible menu options on the left (Manuscript, Characters, Places, Research, etc) or on the right (Synopsis, General meta-data, etc), nor on the formatting menus at the top for font type, font size, font style (bold, italic, underline), alignment, etc.

If I use my graphics tablet pen, it recognises left clicks from the pen just fine, but not from the mouse at all. This may seem like a minor frustration, but using a pen to navigate with is awkward and takes the emphasis off the ease of using Scrivener.

Scrivener isn’t working well with tablets just yet, so I think that’s probably what’s hampering your mouse. Frankly I’m impressed that you’re able to click as much as you can with the pen. If you unplug the tablet and just use the mouse, are you able to click around without problem?

(We’d like to provide better tablet support in the future, but there hasn’t been time yet to really get that going prior to the 1.0 release. This is something Lee will be looking at more once 1.0 is out.)

Thank you for the reply  My mouse actually works by using my tablet (it’s a Wacom tablet mouse), so the tablet compatibility issue would answer what’s going on there. I’m not sure why the pen works but the mouse doesn’t though, as they both use the same tablet, but I’ve switched to a normal USB mouse for now and that works fine. Fingers crossed the tablet compatibility issue gets fixed soon after the 1.0 release

Thanks again for the reply!

I’d like to add something to that. :arrow_right:

I just started using Scrivener for Windows (Beta 0.0.29), with my Bamboo Pen & Touch tablet (so basically it has both the pen function and finger/touch function, I don’t have a tablet mouse as mentioned above).
Scrivener does not work with my tablet pen, which seems to be different from the posts above, where S does work with the pen, but not with the mouse. On my (2 different) pc’s with the same pen and touch tablet, the pen does NOT work, while the touch function DOES work…

So, if the compatibility of Scrivener with the new pen and touch tablets could be enhanced, I’d be very grateful…

Thanks for giving Scrivener a try. As I said above, tablet support is definitely something we’d like to provide, but Lee, the developer, isn’t going to have a chance to really get into this at least until after the 1.0 release and initial updates. It is on the list, though.

I can navigate with the touch function, so I’ll be patiently waiting. Thank you for your reply!
