Can't edit in Outliner

I set goals in several chapters in Outliner then went on to other tasks. When I went back to change some of the goals (just trying to learn how it works), Outliner won’t let me edit – not goals, not text, or anything else.

Double clicking won’t work in this case since that just opens up the document in the Editor. Right clicking doesn’t seem to work either.

I tried again after the 15.8.1 update and no luck.

Thanks for any suggestions for this noob.

What version of Scrivener, please? And with which version of Mac OS?

Are you sure the Outline pane has the cursor focus?

Mac Mini M2.

I clicked on Outliner and it came up. Clicked on file I wanted to edit and it highlighted but the word count goal wouldn’t focus.

Again, what version of Scrivener? And what version of Mac OS? Their respective “About” commands will tell you.

What’s the name of the specific column you’re trying to edit? Total Target is a calculated value and is not editable, for instance.

I think my ORIGINAL question has been answered – thanks.

Scrivener 3.3.6 (16305)
Mac Sequoia 15.1.1
Columns I was trying to edit:

Title & Synopsis and Target – Target works – I was trying to click on “Total Target” which as you point out is a calculated value.)

I also figured out if I want to edit something in the Outliner (such as the title or synopsis) I have to click… (it turns purple) pause… then click again to edit. Hadn’t noticed that before.

BTW: Is there a setting that can change the purple highlighting and “lavender” background? I went through all the appearance settings and nothing seemed to work on that color.

On the Mac, those derive from the OS-wide “Accent color” and “Highlight color,” which are configurable in the Apple → System Settings → Appearance pane.
