Can't Open File Dated December, It Recommends I Update Scrivener

Then when I try to update Scivener I am told it is up to date. So I can not open any file created before 2020?

The project cannot be opened. The project you are trying to open was created with a newer version of Scrivener than the one you are currently using. You will need to update Scrivener to open this file."

I click HELP/Check for Updates - “Scrivener is up to date!”

I am stuck.

Probably you used the Scrivener 3 beta, and are now trying to open the project with the release version, Scrivener 1.9.x.
