Can't right indent

I’m using Courier with standard left margin justification and double spacing.

I wish to indent an entire paragraph on both left and right sides for quoted text. To be clear, I wish to see the quoted text appear as if it were set up with larger margins on both the left and right sides. I’m able to indent the left side but when I use the right indent command it functions exactly as the left indent command, only in the opposite direction. The right side is not indented.

I have Java disabled on my machine, if that matters.

I find the best way is to show the ruler (Cmd-R) then move the margins manually. When I’ve got the margins precisely as I want, I save that as a formatting preset with a name like “Body Text Indented” or some such. Then I can apply it to any paragraph (and they all come out with the same margins).
