change the default new text document

How can I change the default new text to include word count and other options like predefined label and status and specific text in notes area.

I would like my normal scene template to be default or change the default to my current scene template contents so I do not have to use pulldown and can just add new doc to binder, corkboard, or outline and have it already include my predefined contents.

Thank you.

If you check out the menu version of this instead of the button, over in Project/New From Template/, you’ll see the first template in the list (Character Sketch in your case) gets its own dedicated shortcut. So the trick is to make a document template set up the way you’d like all new files to be, and then put that in the top position in your templates folder in the binder. Now use that shortcut instead of Cmd-N to make new files.

That doesn’t technically override a blank file, you can’t really do that—but there is another approach that will effectively do so: select the Draft folder (or wherever you would like for the default file type to be changed) and use the Documents/Default New Subdocument Type to the document template you created for this. That works in a cascading fashion, it will impact all subfolders and such within the Draft folder as well, unless one of those folders has its own default subdocument type.

Lastly, for strictly label and status you don’t need to make a template to change the defaults. Visit the Project/Meta-Data Settings… panel, select the label/status you want as default and use the Make Default button in both of the respective tabs to change which is applied by default to new documents. That won’t sort out Notes though, so in your case specifically, one of the above approaches will work best.

Sorry for the late reply. Thank you. That was exactly what I needed.
