Changing formatting in editor wont work

Hello! There’s probably a very obvious solution here but nothing seems to be working. I want to increase the font size for all my documents. So, I make a new document, change the font size, pop on over to options, editing, formatting and press use formatting in current editor. Then I highlight all the documents I’d like to format, go to documents, convert, text to default.

What happens? Everything changes to 12 font… even the documents that I had mainly changed to 14.

If i make a new project the editor has the correct formatting. But new documents nor converting is changing the formatting. Do I just resign myself to changing the font size automatically? (the increase in font size is due to my eyesight lmao)

There’s Format > Make Formatting Default. Also, if you have document templates (found in the Templates folder) for specific purposes, e.g., with varying font sizes, ensure they are set to your preferred defaults.

Also, if it’s only the Editor that’s bothering your eyesight and not the surrounding interface (Binder, Inspector, etc.), you might consider scaling the editor to a larger percentage. Compiling still produces a document at the normal (100%) scale. For instance, my editor is set to 175% with the Aptos 10 pt font. It’s similar to reading a Word document set to page width.

I would guess, since this only seems to be happening in your main project, that the parenthetical statement in the middle there, regarding project settings, is the culprit.

  1. In your main project, use the Project ▸ Project Settings... menu command.
  2. Select the Formatting tab.
  3. Make sure the checkbox for Use different formatting for new documents in this project is disabled.
  4. Click OK.

Now try again, it should now be using your global formatting settings when you run the conversion command.

Thanks! Yeah i also have the document at 175% but my glasses prescription is old and I need my letters to be bigger. Font increase was the best solution for me

If you don’t want the larger font in your output document, you can change it via the Compile settings (specifically the Section Layout formatting). As with most Compile tasks, this is a good one to investigate in advance of your deadline.
