Compile - Cannot get bulleted lists to display

I’m using v. 1.0.3 in the trial version. I would have bought my copy already except:

I make extensive use of bulleted lists in my 200+ page OpenOffice manuscript. The manuscript imported ok (doubled all of my URLs, but that’s fixable) into Scrivener, BUT I when I compile into either ODT the list go away completely. If I use RTF, I preserve the text but lose the formatting. I have:

  • Searched the forums
  • Tried several different settings w/in compile, including “as is”
  • Read through the release notes for the 1.1 beta and it doesn’t appear to address my issue.

Nothing I’ve tried so far has worked. I really LOVE Scrivener otherwise. Breaking my large manuscript into chapters and including format notes and research material into my Scrivener project has increased my efficiency at the writing itself. But all of that is for naught if I can’t successfuly compile EVERYTHING in my draft into an a format I can hand off to others.

Please suggest something to try OR let me know that this is a known issue so I can move on.

4/24/12 - UPDATE: Testing the idea that maybe this was an import issue, I created a new project and typed in a bulleted list. I then compiled it to rtf and odt. Results:

Odt - No bullets and no text - very, very bad.
Rtf - Text without bullets - less bad but very annoying.

My guess here – did only random tests to see whether Scrivener is useful for me – (it is! it is!):

  1. Save as Word.doc.
  2. Open in Word. Save as RTF / ODT.

List entries are preserved. [Tested with Word 2010/x64]

PS: If you can hand off the DOC, there’s no need for step 2 .

Thank You! That solution did work for me! Appreciate you sharing your experiments.

I’m glad you’ve found a solution!

As it turns out, failure to compile lists and bullets is a bug in the ODT <-> Scrivener conversion. It’s on our list to fix, but at this point I don’t think it’s clear whether it’s a Scrivener bug, an OpenOffice bug, or some kind of interaction conflict between the two.

Thank you for trying Scrivener,

Katherine

Katherine,

Thanks for getting back to me. I’m glad that the Scrivener -> odt conversion bug will be getting some programmer attention.

I have go ahead and bought my copy of Scrivener. I’m looking forward to continuing with it and seeing what newer versions bring.
