Compile export injects "#" for new lines

Running Scrivener 3.4 on Sequoia.

I’m sure I’m just missing something basic - but when using the compilation, I am running into two issues (using the Novel template).

The first is the chapter names are not showing in the outputed PDF. they are Section Type: Chapter, as the example was showing, but still not appearing.

The other issue is the new lines are appearing as a “#” intead of just a blank new line throughout the entire manuscript.

Thanks in advance!

For the new lines, are you using double returns between paragraphs? If so, the Compile command is interpreting them as a scene break. You can use the Edit → Text Tidying → Remove Extra Lines Between Paragraphs command to get rid of them without editing the Compile Format.

(If you want more white space between paragraphs, you can get it by adjusting the Format → Paragraph → Line and Paragraph Spacing setting. Think carefully before doing this in your output, though, as it’s not what most published books do.)

For chapter names, are the titles you want present in the Binder, or in the body text? Have you assigned an appropriate Section Layout to those sections?

Thanks for the quick response!

This is exactly what I was looking for. Yes the titles are in the binder, I managed to find by customizing the output template I could make sure it was selecting both the title and the text, instead of just the text.

I still have much to learn, but this is getting me moving in the right direction.
