Compile Font Problems

Compile is not working correctly for me. In the “Formatting” section I chose Level 1+ (and all the others!) changing the font to Garamond. I hit compile, checked the output file and lo…not Garamond. I even made sure to check the “Override text and notes formating” box.

Thinking something may have been whack in my efforts, I chose one of the pre-set “Format As” selections, namely “Novel Standard Manuscript Format”. I hit compile, and lo…the font is not Courier New as it is supposed to be, but the proper separators are there, as are the headers.

Compile is simply not changing/modifying the text correctly.

Thanks for your help!

First, quick check, are your documents set to compile “as is”? You can see this easily in the Contents tab of compile. Also, in the Formatting tab there are different document types (folder, document stacks, and single documents) as well as levels–did you double-check that you changed the font for all the necessary document types?

Otherwise, what file type are you compiling to (RTF, PDF, etc.) and, unless it was straight to print, what program are you using to view the compiled document?

Strike all that. Editing this response.

I made sure “Compile As-Is” was unchecked. That solved the problem when I chose the “Novel Preset”. Then I made sure all my levels were correctly formatted and changed to Garamond. Then I saved it as a new preset. Then I saved both as a .docx and as an .rtf and opened with both Word and Wordpad and there is only Garamond for my first document the rest of the documents on the same level revert to Times New Roman!!

Then, when I go back to compile and choose the preset, the fonts have reverted to MS Shell Dlg 2.

What’s going on?

Still having the problem–but narrowed it down.

I re-installed Scriv and tried again. I chose “Compile”, made sure “as-is” was not checked, went to formatting, chose Level 1+ and hit “Modify”, then in the new window clicked the “A” for font selection. The default was “MS Shell Dlg 2”. I choose Garamond 12pt. Selected OK, then selected OK for the “Formatting” window. Then I double-checked, doing the same thing again and my changes were not saved. It still had the font as “MS Shell Dlg 2”.

Scrivener is not saving the changes I made there. That’s my problem.

Thanks for your help!

One thing that might be the cause of your issue…

Do you have more than one type of content selected for inclusion in your compile? Eg, Are you compiling a title as well as text?

If so, you need to select the element you wish to change the formatting of in order for the changes to save.

In other words, if the Modify dialogue looks like this:

You need to highlight an element before it will let you edit and save the format changes…

That’s it.

And it also answers the next question I would inevitably had about formatting titles.

Thank you abundantly!
