compile inline annotations

Dear all,

I hope you are doing fine. My name is Rodrigo. I’m a lawyer in Brasil and I just discovered Scrivener, which is great and is improving my productivity a lot.

I have a question, tough.

I’m using Scrivener to my master dissertation. I’m using the inline annotation feature to make notes in my drafts, wich is very usefull, since I can really see them.

However, when I compile or export the document, I can keep the inline annotation, but it is not colored anymore. It is either like a baloon or like part of the text, separated by brackets.

I would like them to keep exactly like they are – big and red (or whichever color I want).

Why is that? Well, when I’m making comments about an article, there are some personal comments that I like to keep in red – and inline annotation id good because they stay exactly where I want them to be.

But If I want to share the document with someone, there is this issue with the inline annotations.

Therefore, I ask: is it possible to compile/export the document keeping the inline annotations exactly like they are in Scrivener?

If not, is it possible to add a “color” feature together with the brackets in the compilation config?

Thank you for your attention.

Best regards,

Rodrigo

This should be working in the future. There are two missing components of the design that you aren’t seeing yet (I can’t say exactly when you’ll see them arrive):

 • Each annotation can have its own colour.
 • All formats that support text colour should export them to colour, in accordance with their individual hues in the editor.

Thanks for sharing how you use the feature! Inline notes are still one of my preferred tools in Scrivener for a broad range of uses. The sidebar notes definitely have their place as well, operating also as a list of “bookmarks” for jumping to text. But there is a lot of utility in having comments formatted like ordinary text, right in the content.

Thanks, AmberV!

It is sad that it is not possible to compile the colored inline annotations yet. It would be quite useful.

I totally agree that the sidebar works more as a list of bookmarks. I use it as a reminder of things I need to research after I finish the document I’m reviewing.

Do you have any idea about when the next version should be available?

Best wishes,

R

No idea, but stay tuned here on the forum. This is where you’ll hear about any beta news and such, first. The announcements board is a good one to subscribe to.
