Compile: preserving links in Word

Hi,

I’m sorting out an eBook at present. I’ve pretty much got ePub and the Kindle format sorted, but now need to compile a version in Word to submit to Smashwords.

I’m having a problem retaining internal links in the doc text (for example links between chapters); external links are fine, but the internal ones have vanished.

As an experiment I’ve also tried compiling to rtf and pdf, but in both cases the internal links vanish.

Any ideas?

Hi,

There’s no way to do this, sorry.

All the best,
Keith

You might try looking at this:

pdftowordformac.com/

I’ve no idea what its capabilities are, or if it preserves internal links from the pdf.

Edit: this one definitely preserves hyperlinks:

alifesoft.com/mac-pdf-word-converter.html

Edit: obviously, I’m assuming that one could compile to a pdf that preserves the links – is that coming in a beta, or can it already be done? I haven’t been paying enough attention, clearly.

Martin.

Internal links in PDFs are coming in the next beta and in the next update.

But, good news: internal links in RTF files are coming, too. Following Steven’s post, I had a quick look into it, and it turns out it is straight forward to implement after all.

All the best,
Keith

Great news. I’m very very new to Scrivener, and am very impressed.

Thanks for the responses.

Great news about the update. I’ll keep an eye out for it.

I found that if I export a Scrivener manuscript as a .doc and open that in Pages I can rebuild internal links and export as a .doc again with the links intact (I checked them with OpenOffice). So I might do that in the meantime. There’s not too many to sort out.

(Wonder if there’s enough eBook-related traffic to justify a separate sub-forum?)

Thanks again

Steve

The new beta supports internal links for RTF files (and Word files if you use the new Java-based converters) and for PDF files:
