Hi, I’m using 3.1.5, compiling a document in which I want to retain the in-line annotations because they contain citation information. So in Compile I uncheck the box “Remove annotations.” Compiling to pdf there is no problem, I can easily see the annotations in the file, but when I compile to rtf all the annotations are removed! I’ve tried compiling with the box checked, then unchecked again, in case the setting is not sticking, but the problem remains.
[Help!]
Martin
Update: Compiling to Print correctly doesn’t remove the annotations; compiling to text the same. As far as I can see, only compiling to rft causes this problem.
I don’t think you’re experiencing a bug. It sounds that you’re somewhat familiar and comfortable with Scrivener’s compile feature. If you have any trouble with what I’m advising (each reference is from the Scrivener manual), feel free to ask for clarification. I’m sure someone will reply. And, of course, if you find that there is a bug after all, report your findings.
How your inline annotations compile is related to what you choose at “Compile for” (PDF, .rtf, etc.) and with the Compile Format you’ve chosen, edited or created.
Read general info at sub-sections 23.1 and 23.2 (in its entirety), Compile Overview Screen and Compile Formats respectively.
Within that info, The Compile Format Designer is noted. Read sub-section 24.1 (in its entirety), Setting Up the Format for info on setting one up, saving it, etc.
I’m open to the possibility that this is a feature, not a bug. But having looked through those sections of the Manual, I don’t see the solution to my problem. I am using the APA template. All my text has the format “Section,” because I began with a formatted document and needed to retain much of that formatting unchanged. (This is a second edition.)
The option to Remove Annotations is visible whether I choose to Compile to Print, Pdf, Doc, RTF, or TXT. When I deselect that option the annotations in my text are present in the output document in every case except RTF.
It seems to me that they should be present in RTF too. Am I missing something?
They may very well be included, but you’re viewing them in an editor (like TextEdit) that cannot display margin comments (the default for RTF). To switch them to something more compatible, edit the Format, and in the Footnotes & Comments compile format pane, set Export comments and annotations as: inline comments.
