Compile to DOCX line spacing issues

Hi,
I have compiled to epub previously with fewer issues. Now trying to get a paperback so compiling to 6x9 DOCX. I have also tried to use the forum answers and solved a few of my issues but can not figure out how to get my output to be 12pt and 1.5space (separate question- for paperback 1.5 or 2?) The document is in 1.5/6/0 and in compile formatting I have Body set to 1.5 (and 12pt) but everything comes out 10pt and single spaced. Any thoughts? thank you Tom

Are you using a Body style in your manuscript?

Are you using one of Scrivener’s supplied Compile formats, and if so which one?

For paperbacks Line Height is typically 120% of the typeface X-height. So, 12 pt for 10pt letters. Usually, the auto or default Line Height setting is 120% already.

I am using Paperback 6x9 but with some adjustments. I am not sure I am using a body style but in the options I adjusted it…not sure where else to adjust it. My document looks fine in scriovener and I finally forced the font to TNR… just can’t figure out where to set font and spacing thank you!

Where’s @Vincent_Vincent when you need him? :grinning:

Choose File > Compile, Double-click the Format you’re using (Copy and Edit when asked), with the first tab Section Layouts selected, click the Section Layout for your scenes / Sections and click the text in the Formatting Editor halfway the window.

Now the formatting Options become available in the formatting toolbar. The Line Height drop-down is so far to the right that it may not be visible, widen your window if you can’t see it.

Save your Compile Format and click Compile in the Compile Overview window (or hold Alt and click Save to save the updates Compile Settings).

@AntoniDol Thank you!! and Thanks to all comments.
It may seem simple and it now seems simple to me- but I couldn’t figure that out. Worked like a charm. Your help is much appreciated. Thank you

Glad it worked. Can you let us know what your showstopping action was? What kept you from figuring this out?

In hindsight this sounds dumb, but I just did not realize that section layout drove the format. I clicked on styles and changed everything to TNR (unsuccessfully) before finally driving the font on the top line in Compile overview.
That solved my font issue but then this spacing/font size thing came up. Now I see I could have done it all in section layout instead. So it’s not that I didn’t understand that I needed to go into the project format…I just failed to see where.

since we are chatting- I currently forced all fonts to TNR but now see that I can change that. What is best practice for novel (fantasy) should I keep chapter titles in same font as body text or vary?

Ha ! (Not that obvious, isn’t it?)
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Best practice is to keep it to one font. TNR is one option. Adobe Garamont or Minion are used a lot. Looking for a free classic font? Aparajita is nice, but has a very small x-height.
