compiling from scrivener to Word

Hello. I am new to Scrivener and am wondering if it’s possible to compile to Mac Word from the Character Sketch folder or compile to Word any work in progress from any other text based file? If so, is this easy to do? Thanks!

EDIT:

As reepicheep mentions below, my original post was wrong. Ignore me. Sorry ;(

Hello fellow scribe

[size=50]Scrivener will only compile files that are in the “drafts” folder. (The drafts folder can be renamed or it might have a different name in a different template, but irrespective of its name, Scrivener will only ever compile files from that one special folder.)

If you want other files in Word, you’ll find that File > Export > Files… is your friend. This function can export files from any folder in a variety of formats, including Word.

Hope this helps.

That’s weird because when I select my (30 page*) sketch for a character in the Characters folder I can compile it! I use File > Compile > Contents and then change the pull-down to “Current Selection” and then select “Include subdocuments”. The latter is because I subdivide the sketch into different documents and folders to focus attention on specific attributes (from Apperance, Family, Relationships, Back Story, etc)

  • It is a very detailed Character Sheet that combines suggestions from various old posts in NaNoWriMo’s Character Cafe forum. The default Character Sheet from the Novel template was not helping with character development.

I live and learn, reepicheep. Thanks for correcting my error. Doh!

Wow, that’s a big character profile. Never actually used a character sheet: everyone lives in my cluttered head. :open_mouth:

Not so much an error as something unobvious until one has fiddled.

I get them into my head via the profiles. After that they run around without any constraints—I’m a NaNo pantser and proud of it.
