Compiling :Numbered scenes restarting with each chapter

I have a pratical need. I want to renumber each scene in each chapter.
I want Chapter One then 1, 2, 3. Chapter two, then 1, 2, 3 etc.
For the moment I have chapter One, then 1, 2, 3 and Chapter two, 4, 5 etc…
I use <$n> as separator for scenes. I have a special compiling format because margins in the built in compiling format are too narrow for French editors.
I am not an English native and there is no French translation for the Manual.
Can you help me with that?

Go to Help▸List of all Placeholders... and scroll down to the autonumbering section. If you have <$n> in the section layout for the scene, put <$rst> or <$rst_n> in the layout for chapters.

I have tried that : <$rst_n> in the suffix and the prefix but now every scene is numbered “1”
It seems it reset the number each time.
So I do I reset the counting after change of chapter?

That would happen if <$n> and <$rst> are both at the same level (in the same layout). The reset has to happen when a chapter starts, not when the scene starts.

Also, you don’t need <$rst> in the Suffix. Just the Prefix.

Thanks for your help. It worked.
To be precise I had to put <$n> as prefix in scene layout and <$rst_n> as suffix in Chapter layout.
Problem resolved.

It doesn’t matter if you put it in the prefix or suffix, so long as it’s in the right layout. I’ve always used only the Prefix.
