I’m relatively new to Scrivener so please excuse me if this is a basic question.
I’ve written a play in the Stage Play UK format and am wondering if there is a way to compile the complete play in Stage Play US format - i.e. an automatic way to change the formatting of all the dialogue and stage directions.
If you use the Scriptwriting menu to change the Script Mode to a different style, Scriv will want to transform any script mode documents in your project to the newly selected format.
Be advised, this is often not a work-free change to make. The different script formats do not all have the same script elements nor equivalents thereof. For example, in some Character and Dialogue are distinct elements, but in others Character & Dialogue is a single (specially structured) element.
When Scrivener offers to make the transition for you, it will ask you how the script elements in the two formats should be related to each other (i.e. which translate into which), so you can get it to do most of the work for you. In my experience, though, there is often touch up to do (reapplying correct script elements to text chunks).
Before making a wholesale change to something you care about, do make sure you have a current backup of your project.
