I would like to compile a pdf document two column landscape format that looks like the attached. I don’t know where the settings are to do this.
Like you I cannot find settings in Scrivener compile to PDF that does this. But if I had this need I would simply compile to RTF or DOCX, open in Word (or another other app that has same feature), set Page Layout to “Landscape” and format the entire document with 2 columns. Then save/print to PDF.
There also are column settings when compiling direct to RTF/DOCX as described Section 24.6.2 of the Scrivener Manual For Word Processing (Mac manual). No need to repeat all that here. Even doing that you need to use a tool (Word or another app) to create the PDF.
I’m not sure what will happen to the footnotes in an rtf compile. They are saved in docx. A one-step solution would be nice. Writing in Markdown (#, ##, * _)…well, Scrivener isn’t really Markdown friendly. Compiling to plain text loses footnotes. Compiling to tex gives me ten files or so. What do I need with all these files??
Compiling to RTF includes footnotes. Just don’t open it in TextEdit! Word opens RTF perfectly.
Even if I used Word, I would always compile to RTF, as that is Scrivener’s native format, and let Word do the conversion to DOCX.
