Composition mode closes the app

Windows 10. Open composition mode and the app closes but the composition window stays open.

Hitting ESC does not revert me back to the app/binder/editor. I get stuck in composition mode. If I make a change to the text, then hit ESC I revert back to the editor.

Hi @scottfalcon,

You didn’t mention F11 at all.

Press F11 to enter Comp Mode, then press F11 to exit Comp Mode.

Does that work?

P.S. You posted this as a Windows 3 Beta issue. Was that your intent?

Best,
Jim

What do you mean by this? For Composition Mode to become the main window is the expected behavior, but if Composition Mode functions, Scrivener (“the app”) is still open.

That is the problem. The app closes and I have to relaunch it, make an edit in Composition mode for me to get back to the editor and closed the comp window. There is a bug somewhere.

So are you saying that the Composition mode window that launches is non-functional, just a dead screen?

No, this is in 3.1.4.0. F11 does work. I am used to just hitting esc key and it used to work to get back to the editor, but it no longer does. Very strange. I guess I need to change my work habit to use only F11. Thanks.

I don’t have the Windows version handy, but in the Mac version this is a configurable setting. Check the Behaviors/Composition Mode tab of the Options dialogue.

Topic moved, since this is not related to the beta version.

Ah, didn’t realize that.

@scottfalcon, enable File > Options > Behaviors > Composition Mode > Escape key closes Comp Mode, and you can continue to rely on your muscle memory.

Best,
Jim

Thank you Jim. All the best…
