Composition mode - I can't see all the text

Hi there - I’ve got a new MacBook Air and I’m running Scriv 3.2.3. and whenever I enter full screen composition mode the text is just too wide for the window, there are no margins either side of my text any more, and to see the start or end of a line I have to move the trackpad side to side to do so. I have adjusted paper width and text scale, and turned typewriter on and off, but I’m now at a loss - I have never encountered this problem before on my iMac or iPad, so I’m hoping it is something simple that I have overlooked and it being a new piece of kit etc, because it is driving me nuts…

Any help much appreciated.

I can’t really help but I have a question. What happens when you set the paper width to max ?
Is the text still missing bits ? Like it goes on “outside of your screen” or something ?
Do margins eventually appear ?

I must admit I don’t really have an idea as I have never faced anything like what you described.

But I got some questions:

Does switching Preferences/Behaviours/Composition Mode/Open composition mode in its own space on and off change anything?

And when you turn on the Ruler in Composition Mode what margins does it show? Are they set in the visible range?

Does the “text overflow” occur only in projects existing before on your older Mac or with a new one too?

Hi

So after having no luck on the forums or any of the options offered for composition mode, I went through a whole power down sequence on my Mac and rebooted. And this seemed to do the trick. I can only assume it was some kind of glitch maybe to do with me running the new OS? Anyhow if it occurs again I’ll keep you posted.

Always turn it off and then back on again. Still seems to be the best medicine…

A system reboot should be near the top of the list — not a last resort — when unexplained glitches come along in any software.

at, if you ask me.

The weird thing here is that the first time I noticed the glitch I did power on/off but it didn’t make any difference - it took a full power down cycle, unplug from the mains, leave for 2-3 mins before reconnecting to have any effect… so I’m not 100% sure it won’t come back… but we’ll see. Anyhow this particular glitch has at least been noted for future reference.

For future reference, you might want to check your MBA’s power save options and make sure you understand how they interact with the restart/shutdown options. Generally speaking, hitting the power switch on a laptop sends it into suspended animation, and (by design) won’t do a thing to reset this kind of weirdness.
