Controlling where new documents are added

Is there a way to change where a new document is created in a folder? Right now, when I add a new document to the drafts, it’s created at the bottom. I use Scrivener for writing weekly articles, and want the newer ones I’m actively working on at the top.

Is there a setting somewhere that will make new documents (created via Add > New Text) show at the top of the folder instead of the bottom?

If you click on a doc in the Binder to select it, your new doc — you could just hit return at that point to create the new doc — will be created right below it. (If you click on a folder in the binder, your new doc will be added to the end of the list of docs in that folder.)

That won’t work if you’ve changed the setting for the return key to use standard behavior…

If you have a date as the first part of each document’s title, in a sortable format (YYYY-MM-DD, for instance), then you can sort your draft folder using Edit->Sort after the fact. But as far as I’m aware, there’s no way to place new documents at the top of the binder when creating them.

You could also just let Scrivener create them the way it does, and use a date field in custom metadata, Enable that custom column in the outline view, and click on the header to sort in reverse order to view them that way while still keeping them in chronological order in the binder.
