I have copied my whole book to another USB and deleted the order from the previous safe location. Now when I open “name.scrivx” from the new USB all the orders and files with their titles of the project are still there but all of the text is missing. I haven’t lost it, when I go to the “Files” order and then “Docs” there are many “numbers.rtf” files and I can open them with word and there is all my text. My question is how do I get Scrivener to use them?
What did you copy?
I’ve copied a whole Scrivener project, It is saved as order as “book-name.scriv”. In which the orders Files, Icons, Settings, Snapshots, and then the actual file I click to open the project are located.
I’ve dragged and dropped many hundreds, possibly thousands, of ProjectName.scriv folders (both 1.9x versions and Beta versions) to USB devices. In fact, that’s the method I use to do my backups. The only times I had drag and drop failures was when I didn’t eject the USB device properly, and the files didn’t complete the write cycle.
Windows has a problem writing files to USB devices that may or may not affect some users.I highly recommend USB Safely Remove (or any free software) to eject USB devices properly by ensuring the drag and drop has completed its write cycle.
If you pull the USB device before the write cycle is completed, the files may be toast.
