I would like a simple print screen function for the cork board mode; so I can have a quick visual on the go.
I would like a simple way to include the cork board as a pdf or embedded in an email, so I can send it to writing partners or people I am bouncing ideas off of at early stages very easily.
I would love better control of the project and document notes, particularly in the outline mode. I would like to be able to include them just like the other meta data into its own column. This I feel would be highly valuable. Perhaps a view of just notes would be good as well.
This works if all your cards fit nicely on one screen. It gets messy and time consuming very quickly if, for example, you have more than a handful of chapters - especially if those chapters each have enough cards to require scrolling. By the time you’ve taken all the screenshots and pieced them together, it’s a) a too huge to be particularly wieldy image file, and b) hardly convenient… waiting for the feature to come to Windows, and using the sadly ugly options for compiling metadata in the meantime, seems the best option.
Thank you, this really helped. I could not find a print screen other than using note pad and grabbing what I wanted to view. Is that what you meant by print screen, or is there a button I am unaware of? (windows user)
However the scratch pad did the trick nicely.
Quite true. I’d probably splice together images, as you pointed out as one unwieldy option. But given a huge cork board and screen capture will result in an over-sized image.
On a full-sized keyboard it’s at the top, just to the right of the F12 key. Mine says “prt scr / sysrq” (I have to hold the shift key to get it).
Alt-PrtScr will copy the current window image to the clipboard rather than the whole screen image. Then Ctrl-V into paint or some other image editor and crop that image to only the corkboard section.
Prt-Scr is hopeless if you, like me, have around 100 scenes on your corkboard. I use Outline and the little tool currently standard with all win7 (not sure of the name in english - snippet? - looks like a pair of scissors) and paste it onto a powerpoint slide.
I was stupid enough to buy my new notebook computer with Win8 and surface functionality - and win8 allows for nothing else but window products so I cant use Scrivener on it. I’ll keep an updated Outline-powerpoint-copy in the cloud and that way I’ll be able to write while travelling and add the texts to scrivener when i get back, knowing where to put them by using the outline-copy. Not ideal, but it will have to do for now.
You should try the latest beta (you can install it in a separate folder so as to just test it, without getting rid of your stable version). It has Corkboard and Outliner printing facilities similar in scope to what the Mac offers currently.
Regarding Windows 8, you should be fine running Scrivener on 8. We’ve done a little in the beta to increase compatibility, but even the older version works fine in my experience. What you may need to do however is click the “Desktop” tile to revert to a more normal interface. From there you can access and use standard Windows software. You’ll find many programs do not and will never support a “tile” mode, as that is more useful for simple widgets. Some day we might have the time to make a simple tile widget for Scrivener—probably the Scratch Pad, but that’s way off on the horizon right now, and there is no sense pouring time into that until more people have upgraded.
