You can already add your own image as a background to the corkboard. Just go to Tools > Options then choose Corkboard and, where it says “Corkboard background”, select “Custom background. . . ” to select your own image file. (Note that large images may have an impact on performance).
Freeform corkboards were introduced as a new feature in Scrivener 2.x (Mac), so are already planned for inclusion in the Windows version of Scrivener, although we’re not in a position to give any indication of the timeframe for this.
Thanks for the information! Didn’t know about the background image. This will help a lot!
The link provided is for the Mac version. Can’t buy a Mac, so will have to wait!
The link is indeed for the Mac version, but it is the functionality of the Mac version that is being created in the Windows version. The idea is that the two will eventually offer the same feature set.
(If you read the content of the linked thread, you will see that the answer is “no”. )
I actually just read a little more about the differences between the Mac and Windows version.
I hope the Windows version gets some more love with the cork board and outliner. Unfortunately, having a Windows machine is crippling me compared to if I had a Mac using Scrivener. Thanks for your help and input.
To put things in context, you have to remember that the Mac version has been in development for eight years, whereas the Windows version has only been in development for about three. The Mac version didn’t have a a freeform corkboard until a year-and-a-half ago. So it’s not that the Windows version isn’t getting the same love as the Mac version - it is! - it’s just that our Windows team (Lee and Tiho) are having to try to cram in all of that extra development without compromising quality and stability.
Fair enough, but you are assuming Windows users are patient people!
It just happens that these things are so central to how I want to use the software with my writing.
Thank you for the response. If Lee and Tiho take bribes on what to concentrate on next…
Heh heh, the iPad users aren’t patient folks either, so we’re used to it. The trouble with the Windows version is that every user has something different from the Mac 2.0 version that they really want for their workflow, so there’s no pleasing everybody (well, not until it’s all implemented, of course!).
And the constantly running virus and malware checkers, the almost weekly OS updates, reboots to just about every little glitch, etc. Maybe it is masochism?
Yes, if you only frequent the Windows side of the forum I’d recommend paying the odd visit to the Mac side. It’s been going a lot longer, is more than a little mad, and often quite entertaining. Even when I stopped using Scrivener for a while, I often came just to see what was going on.
