Corrupted Backup?

I just had a problem opening my current project. Bummer. Fortunately I’ve been paying attention here and I’ve been making nice zipped backups. In fact, I have a backup from 2am this morning, which means that I didn’t lose any work.

There’s just one problem. It’s broken. :frowning:

I opened up the backup and got a message saying "The project you are trying to load uses an older format and cannot be opened. Woud you like to update it?

I click on “Update Project.”

I get another eror that says “Warning: This project was either not closed properly or is currently open on another machine.” Scrivener offers to re-synchronise the search strings. I click “Ok.” Nothing happens.

What do I do when my backups don’t work? Will I be getting my two days of work back?

The good news is that even if all of the projects are somehow corrupted (which would be strange), the text is still in there and be extracted. I would like to take a look at the project, though, to see what is going on. Could you please send me the following?

  • The original copy, the one that wouldn’t open before you resorted to trying to open backups.

  • A backup that won’t open. Find the one with the oldest date (from yesterday) in the Finder, which will probably say “Old_Backup” at the end of its file name.

Be sure to zip them both up, then send them to support AT literatureandlatte DOT com.

Thanks and all the best,
Keith

I am having the exact same problem. Did you discover what was wrong?

I am having the same problem. Does anyone know what is going on, or how to recover the corrupted files?
