I first encountered this yesterday and was utterly baffled, but finally managed to re-create it today. I don’t think I’ve seen anything already on the forum about it, either.
It appears that the problem originates when I open Scrivener after having closed it while the current view of the editor was in the scrivenings mode. Since it opens to the last thing you had open, Scrivener was bringing me back there. Instead of opening straight to scrivenings mode of my entire novel draft (yes, another Nano crazy person here), it would take me to the corkboard.
Here is what I noticed-- Note that though the corkboard is currently showing, the highlighted selection in the view chooser above the text editor (apologies for not circling it) is of the single document view, not the corkboard.
Whenever I would try and click on either of the other view options, Scrivener would promptly crash. I could click on other documents in the binder and it would go to them, but it wouldn’t allow me to switch views via that bar. The first time this happened, I ended up restarting Scrivener, restarting my computer (Toshiba NB205 netbook running Win7 starter, 1GB ram) and then restarting Scrivener again-- no luck. Somehow I managed to break out of the error, but I was unsure of how.
I recently found I could get back to scrivenings mode without crashing the program by going to the top level of the draft (titled Manuscript), which would appear in corkboard view, and then drilling down to the next level by double-clicking on the folder icon inside the notecard. The bar would then tell me (correctly) that I was in corkboard view, and I would be able to return to scrivenings mode.
I believe I have an up-to-date beta, I did download the hot-fix file from the Oct 29th post. I will try and re-create this crash on my other computer next time I’m using Scrivener there.
Pre-post ETA: I just found this same glitch happens if I close the program while viewing the Manuscript folder at its top level in corkboard view. Again, was able to drill down to the next level and have the correct view showing.
