I do not know if this is already reported. I found nothing that sounds like that.
I’m making my very first footnote in Scrivener.
And then, I have to try several things out, before I get out of this footnote.
Clicking on “footnote” again in the menu, as I would for “italics” on the button bar, does not turn off the footnote.
The only way I could reach out there is just typing, then selecting the text not belonging to the footnote, and finally click on “footnote” in the menu.
In addition, as I leant that footnotes are to be ended with a fullstop, I put one there. After the footnote, the next word is capitalised, which should in this case not be, as the dot is inside the footnote, and not inside the text itself.
Is this actually a “bug” ? Or am I doing something wrong ?
Question of probability, I would say it’s me, as I’ve never used this before in Scrivener.
I can’t say whether persistent italics is a bug, as I’m a Mac user, but you may be getting that because of the way you’re working, or rather, getting out of footnotes. I would think on the PC it would be just like on the Mac.
I would guess that to enter a footnote you type Shift-Ctrl-F, or whatever key shortcut it is; to get out of footnote you should simply type the same key combination. The same works for annotations for us, but with A rather than F as the literal in the key combination.
I was trying this via the menu.
And I think this might be a bug, as “turn on” and “turn off” a function work either by clicking on the menue, or on the button, or using keyboard.
I believe this is exactly the same on Mac as on PC : always more than one way.
And whatever command is used to turn on/off a function, when used again, after turning on, it should then turn off.
This is what I was reporting.
But, again, there must be a bug in my English too…
I think I have experienced this as well Lilith with annotations as well as footnotes. I couldn’t remember how they were supposed to work. Been a while since I used the Mac 1.54 version.
To reproduce
Click in editor to make sure that has focus so that annotations/footnotes can be enabled.
Click formatting > annotation or formatting > footnote
Type text
Repeat step 2 to switch off
What happens
Formatting option is not switched off. Typing new text after the footnote or annotation keeps the annotation or footnote formatting.
Workaround
Type the text you wish to have as an annotation or footnote and then type a space. Apply the desired formatting to the text without extra space. Click the space to return to default formatting. Not leaving a space causes the annotation and footnote formatting to persist after you begin typing text.
