Cumulated Characters/Words in Outliner

This is my third topic in this section. It’s the last, I promise

In the Outliner of 1.5beta there are colums “Total Words” and “Total Characters”.
I’d find useful a column showing the cumulated number of characters or words, summing the characters/word from the beginning of draft folder to the document. This column could show the growing of the project to its target.
I hope I was clear (my english isn’t the best )

Bye, Luca

I’m not really sure what you mean… The “Total Words” and “Total Characters” columns do show the cumulated counts, in that they show for any given folder or container the total number of words or characters for all subdocuments added together…
All the best,
Keith

I try to explain with an example

In the binder I have these documents:

Draft

  • Doc1
  • Folder 1
    –Doc2
    –Doc3
  • Doc4

In Outline I wish to have:

Title | Characters |Total Characters |Cumulated Characters

  • Doc1 | 100 | 100 | 100
  • Folder 1 | 100 | 300 | 200
    –Doc2 | 100 | 100 | 300
    –Doc3 | 100 | 100 | 400
  • Doc4 | 100 | 100 | 500

If the Folder1 is closed, the cumulated character column should say 400 because is considered like one block oh text. The last column show the progress of writing.

I hope I was clear.

Thank you

Luca

What you are looking for is what is often called a running total.

–Greg

 Sorry for my english.

Thank you!

Is it an impossible feature?

Oh, I see what you mean. No, it’s not impossible - but I’m afraid I don’t have any plans to implement it, sorry. I think there’s enough information there already, and having too many columns that do similar things would get confusing.
All the best,
Keith
