I find it curious that when I used to always go to Project>Project_Statistics to find out how many words I have written, it always takes 5-6 seconds (yes an older iMac), while clicking on the Target button shows the exact same number instantly … Now I never use the menu route any more.
Any reason for this ?
Project Statistics runs compile in the background so that you can get an accurate count for the compiled Draft. Project Targets, or the document targets from the footer, show a real-time count just of text in the editor, which may not be quite the same as compiled–for instance you might be adding titles, excluding inline notation, only compiling titles and synopses to make an outline, etc.
