Is there anyway to pin the dictionary open in composition mode? I’d like to float it on the screen at all times. Please let me know.

As far as I can see, this is not an option in Composition Mode. However, if you highlight any word and right click for the contextual menu, the first item at the top is “Look up”… When you click this the Dictionary automatically opens for that word.
(In fact, you don’t even need to highlight it - it’s enough just to place the mouse over the word and right click, which will automatically select it while opening the contextual menu.)

You can set the track pad to use three-finger look-up. Simply move the mouse to the word you want and three-finger tap on the track pad, and voila, the dictionary opens.
