Does Scrivener support Text Folding?

Hello All,

I have been using Scrivener for over a year and I love it, although I know I likely only know a small fraction of its functions. That being Said, I am curious if Scrivener allows Text Folding Such as:

Text Section 1
abc
def
ghi
jkl

THEN FOLD TO SEE

Text Section 2
<>

Thank you,
D

No, it doesn’t. Folding in a rich text editor view is non-trivial and even the Apple techs themselves that have worked on this code have concluded it isn’t safely possible in Cocoa (naturally, in theory it is). It was something Keith looked into ages ago for the inline notation implementation. However, Scrivener kind of works with the “folding” principle on a larger arena by virtue of a fine-grained outline. You only need ever view the smallest relevant chunk of text from the main outline, and skipping over portions of text is as easy as Cmd-clicking a few non-linear items and using Scrivenings mode to view them as text.

Hello AmberV,

That’s an interesting work around, I have been using bookmarks to allow quick reference and just having a master outline to tasks.

Thank you,
D
